Introduction to Downland map reading
This course is just the ticket for outdoors people who want to explore our beautiful Southdowns National Park but have yet to acquire the essential skill of map reading.
     
The course runs on the Southdowns via its path systems. Skills covered include: map orientation, using linear features, pacing, using a compass / direction of travel and understanding contours.
         
There are no minimum skills, as the day is aimed at entry level, novices are very welcome. The day can also be very useful as a refresher for those clients with some experience.
 
Rob is a very experienced navigator in the British mountains and the Alps. He has been a regular competitor at orienteering events for over 25 years and has successfully completed a number of mountain marathons in the UK requiring high navigation skills. Besides holding the Mountain Leader (Summer) and Mountaineering Instructor Award, he is also a Tutor for the National Navigation Award Scheme (NNAS).
