The ‘moorland’ navigation course has been designed to deliver the essential skills required to navigate on the notoriously tricksy moors. If you want to feel confident on the moor when the weather turns nasty and the cloud sets in come and learn the skills to get you off safely.
Programme
This, two-day course, is delivered in moorland terrain both on and away from path systems. Skills covered include: map interpretation and symbols, pacing, timing, taking and walking on compass bearings, contouring, aiming off, hand-railing, catching features etc.
Prerequisites
There are no minimum skills for this course although some basic map reading experience is useful. Novice navigators are very welcome. A basic level of fitness is required.
Personal equipment
Clients will need the usual hill kit, plus map and compass (See kit list).
Venue- Dartmoor
Duration- Two full days.
Client numbers- Two to six.
Accommodation- Usually of a bunkhouse type.
